this morning, crunch time in the race for the white house. just two days remain before president obama and mitt romney square off in denver for the first of three critical debates. president's being prepped in nevada today. and the gop challenger has some ground to make up because a brand-new "washington post"/abc news poll this morning has the president leading by two percentage points among likely voters. it's not unusual for candidates to try to lower expectations in the days leading up to dedebate. republicans have been playing up the president's eloquence, ever since last week. but it seems somebody forgot to tell new jersey governor chris christie, because he was setting the bar high for mr. romney. listen. >> he's going to come in wednesday night, lay out his vision for america, he's going to contrast what his view is with what the president's record is, the president's view for the future and this whole race is going to be turned upside down come thursday morning. >> upside down is what he says. in just a few minutes we're going to be talking about wednesday night's debate and the presi

from the first debate between president obama and republican challenger, mitt romney. some are calling these debates a make-or-break moment for romney. it's "your voice, your vote." with just 38 days left to election day. and david kerley joins us from the white house with an inside look at how both sides are prepping. david? >> reporter: good morning, bianna. this is the year that these debates could be critical. so, both candidates are spending a lot of time preparing. heading back to boston for more debate practice, mitt romney would not endorse the view that the debates could be do-or-die for his campaign. >> i don't think anyone would suggest that the debates are not important. i can't tell you how important it will be. it will be a good chance for the president and for me to have a conversation with the american people about our respective views. >> four more years. >> reporter: mr. obama spent a couple of hours practicing yesterday, as well. and has three days set aside for more practice. it's nicknamed debate camp. and near the end of camp, like now, it's a full-on mock debate.

america was needing jobs so badly he was pushing for obama care instead of working to get jobs to the american people. got the chance to ask him why there's still 23 million americans out of work or stopped looking for work, struggling to find good full time jobs? i got the chance to ask him why is the middle class so buried in this country. incomes have gone down. price of gasoline has doubled. price of food and clothing and almost everything else you buy has gone up. people in the middle class has been squeezed, buried as the vice president said. got the chance to talk about that. got a chance to ask him why he's can you identifying medicare. that's not right to pay for obama care. and also got point to out that he's in favor of a tax plain that will kill 700,000 jobs. and so he had the chance to answer those questions, or not answer them as the case may be but then i think even more important was the chance to talk about where we're going in the future. what he would do and what i would do and what he described was in my view a reiteratation of the status quo. he'll keep doi
